Delirium on the Intensive Care can now be predicted reliable. The chances of a patient developing a delirium while on the Intensive Care can be predicted fairly well. Dutch promovendus Mark van den Boogaard developed a model that better predicts the chances on a delirium than the treating doctors. Goal of this model and the accompanying application is to treat a patient with high risk on a delirium, on a preventive basis with medication, and thus leading to less deliria patients, less re-admissions in the hospital and a larger chance of survival, especially in the high-risk group. This model helps the treating doctors in recognizing the risks on a delirium, and preventing the delirium from actually happening. The model is based on three tests, which minimizes the risk of errors and maximizes the results.
